Scott Carew
Coach Carew has 25 years of coaching experience with over 2500 games under his belt. In addition to his coaching accolades, he was a 4-year starting pitcher at Springfield College, earning 3rd in all-time school wins. He started in game 1 of the '94 Division II College World Series and played in over 1500 Amateur games.

Mike Hughes
Mike was a 4-year varsity starter at Immaculate High School. He then played 4 years of college baseball as a pitcher at Franklin Pierce University and Albertus Magnus College.
As a coach, he spent years building Norwalk travel baseball and won multiple state and regional championships, as well as a World Series Championship. He has been a head coach for Westport travel for several years and a major factor in the development of all ages. He also spent a season as the pitching coach for Weston High School Varsity.
Mike’s coaching highlight to this point was the 2 seasons he spent as the pitching coach for the Danbury Westerners, who play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. During those summers, Mike coached top players who were currently playing Division I, II, and III baseball. Even a few who were drafted from the team. Mike would help manage a pitching staff and bullpen of 20+ players each season, along with working with the hitters. In his first season there, the Westerners made it to the NECBL semifinals of the playoffs.

Coach Mike is a Staples High Baseball Alumni joining the SBC Squad as an Assistant.

Assistant Coach
John Bell
Coach Bell, a Staples baseball alum, was a preferred walk-on at Curry College before shoulder injuries ended his career before his freshman year. John played every infield position, but he was primarily a 3rd baseman.
John’s coaching career began as an assistant coach for the 18u Weston Roosters. After a short break, he returned to coaching in Westport in 2020, working as an assistant under Scott Carew. Since then, John has been a head coach for all age groups from 8u to 18u across the Westport Travel, Norwalk Tides, and CT Sharks programs.
As a coach, John has clinched 2 Babe Ruth State and Regional championships in 2023 and 2024 with the Norwalk 15u and 16u Tides, respectively. In 2023, he led Norwalk to the national championship game.
John also has Driveline certifications in hitting and strength training.

Kevin Morton
Coach Morton joins the Sharks as an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in the Majors for the Boston Red Sox in 1991. He batted right-handed and threw left-handed.

Wayne Randazzo
Coach Randazzo brings 30 years of playing experience with him to the Sharks.

Director of College Recruiting
Bob Buswell
Coach Buzz has spent more than 35 years coaching baseball at every level from T-Ball to College. He's been a HS Head Coach as well as a college pitching coach.
For the last 8 years, he's been a Varsity Assistant Coach at Staples HS where he's helped over 25 athletes commit to college programs throughout the country.
In addition to that accolade, he's helped 5 players sign Professional contracts and has coached two CT Gatorade Players of the Year.

Jack McFarland
Coach McFarland has led the Wreckers to 7 FCIAC Championship games in 2006, 2008, 2009,2011, 2015, 2018 and 2019. Staples has won 4 FCIAC Championships, his teams have been to the State LL Finals 5 times and won the State Championship in 2017 and 2019
Since his arrival in 2005 the program has had numerous players earn All-Conference, All-State, All Region and All-American recognition, also the program has produced 3 Gatorade players of the Year in 2017,2019 and 2023. The Staples program has had 5 former players drafted by MLB since 2010! Coach McFarland was also an assistant coach for the Staples Football program from 1995-2017; in 2004 he was named the CHSCA Assistant Coach of the Year
